Bold On Purpose

Rachael Calvert Weddings

The Brief

Rachael Calvert is a full-time marriage celebrant working across lutruwita/Tasmania — elopements on Bruny Island beaches, knees-ups for 200, and everything in between. Her difference is her personality: warm, funny, a bit cheeky, and genuinely invested in each couple’s story. The site she came to me with had been put together herself on a starter platform — perfectly serviceable, did its job, but it didn’t reflect who she actually is. It read like every other celebrant listing in the directory.

She wanted a home online that sounded — and looked — like her.

Our Approach

A few early conversations were less about the site and more about the brand. Rachael had a clear feel for where she wanted to land — bold, atmospheric, a bit theatrical — and we worked it through into a visual direction together: a deep, dark background with a rich red accent threading through the whole site. It’s a long way from the soft pastels and cursive logos that dominate the wedding category, and that’s exactly the point.

For typography I paired a generous, lush serif with a handwritten secondary script. The serif carries the formality and confidence; the handwritten script carries the warmth. Together they hit the same note Rachael does in person — properly grown-up, but never stiff.

The photography did a lot of the heavy lifting. Rachael’s connections in the Tasmanian wedding photography scene meant she walked in with the kind of imagery most projects can only dream of — real ceremonies, real locations (Bruny Island, Spring Bay Mill, bushland and beaches), real couples. Full-bleed, generous, trusted to do its own work without being decorated around. The whole site is built to get out of the way of those images.

To keep things practical, the service offering splits into two clear pathways — intimate elopements versus larger weddings — each with its own language and imagery, so a couple planning a mountain-top moment feels as welcomed as one planning a 200-person celebration.

The Outcome

The site now feels like Rachael: warm, fun, confidently Tasmanian, a little bit theatrical. Couples arrive already half-converted — they’ve read her voice, seen her ceremonies, decided she’s the one — so the first conversation can skip the pitch and get straight to the good stuff: their day.
